Turning a New Page

We want to thank everyone who has supported my Mom on her journey of life, love, health and happiness. The love and support my Mom has received in the last week alone (from many of you) has been positively overwhelming. When we first began this adventure the goal was for Mom to meet new friends and use networking as a means to be lined up. Social media is a powerful tool to find jobs, market products, promote causes - why not to find a special someone?

Understanding the power of social media we thought this would be a great experiment to see if we could use it to bring two lonely people together. My mom wanted to publicly share her experiences on her journey so that she could be a support to those in her shoes and receive the support that she doesn't have.

Bev wanted everyone to know that she isn't perfect, if she was, what would be the point of this blog? We sought for a balance of humor, sincerity, drama and suspense. Mom doesn't take herself too seriously and wanted this to be fun for everyone. If you are going to follow this blog we did not want you to be bored or paint Mom's life in an unrealistic manner. Mom has always believed that her random life experiences have somewhat of an entertainment value. If she could connect with you on that level then you just might be devoted enough to offer your support and encouragement - and maybe line her up.It was worth a shot.

This blog was successful for Mom. She felt your love and support. She faced her fears, confronted her anxieties, took your advice on many levels and even had a big reality check. The best part was, you were lining her up on some fun dates with some great guys. You helped loosen the bands of loneliness and Mom began to enjoy life again. She felt that she had a support group and this gave her the motivation she needed to continue onward and upward. We thank you for that!

As we go though life's journey it's fun to have goals and dreams. To have a balanced life you need to have humor- it's the spice of life. My mom has had a lot of trials in her life and the best way she has been able to endure them is through her ability to laugh and use humor as an alternative to being upset. Mom wants you all to know that she is proud of what her trials have made her become. She has always wanted to use her experiences as a means to help others.

This blog gave her that outlet to help others while setting aside her pride and allowing people to know her on a personal level (weaknesses, trials, embarrassing moments and all) so they could support, encourage and uplift her.We welcomed positive and constructive feedback and appreciate what a lot of you have given. As you can see it's made quite the difference!

Mom has proved to be a real trailblazer. She paved the way for other lonely people in her shoes to discover new and creative ways to keep hope. People at the gym, from the news stations, shopping at the grocery store, and even in her own neighborhood asked to be a part of this and if we could somehow help them.We really thought that one day this would turn into something bigger and we could help so many lonely people!

After considering a great deal of feedback from friends over the past couple of weeks and evaluating our own thoughts and feelings,we have decided to take this blog in a new direction. To prepare for a fresh slate and new approach I have deleted a great deal of past posts as well as the contests and giveaways.

We have decided to use this blog as an inspiration and beacon of hope for other single people like my mom. I have asked my mom to once a week write about whatever is on her mind and we will post it here. You will get an insight to her feelings, beliefs, opinions, and life experiences and an opportunity to experience life through the eyes of a single, 57 year old, LDS woman.

We hope that this will help people understand what it is like to be lonely and single while striving to maintain a balance of spiritual contentment, social interaction, work and basic happiness. Mom wants this to be a great outlet where other people in her shoes can relate and feel that they are not alone, also we hope that this will help others be more aware and sensitive to people in these same circumstances.

We welcome your thoughts, ideas and comments as always here or write us at mail@findmymomahusband.com
Anytime you would like to reach out to Beverly or connect with her, you can write her here. Also, she continues to welcome being lined up!

Date 007

After my mom had her fabulous hair makeover on Saturday she went on a date with a nice guy who she was lined up with through this blog. She had such a fun time she wanted me to blog about it.It was an exciting date with a little bit of suspense and mystery. She calls it her double “O” seven date.

They met up at Famous Dave’s in Layton. Not only was the food great but there seemed to be plenty to talk about. Her date told Mom that she looked beautiful and her favorite part was when he told her that he likes to watch chick flicks. At the restaurant, her date wanted to sit so that he could see the door and everything behind her. He said that he used to be in the police force and that because of his training and experience he can’t sit with his back facing a doorway. Not too long after he had told her this they heard police sirens getting closer and closer. They noticed out the window that there were police walking around the parking lot of the restaurant and they wondered what was going on.

The dinner continued with great conversation but the suspense as to what was going on continued as well. When they finally got outside they saw an older woman crouched over inside a car. Not sure what was the matter with her, Mom's date assumed she would be okay based on the actions and body language of the police officers. Though it was a bizarre situation, Mom had a great time. She liked that little bit of mystery.

After her date she met back up with us and we went to the Polynesian festival. Afterwards we roasted marshmallows in the backyard and watched the fireworks.

I asked my Mom to bring up one of her awards so I could should all of you how great she truly is at her job. This is her favorite award from her previous job in 2003. Mom is shaking hands with the CEO and was flown to a conference where she was recognized and spoiled for the weekend. She is so talented with her sales skills. Just wanted to take a moment and brag on her behalf.

Mom has had the best time with this blog. She has had some great dates, made some new friends and has made some great changes inward and outward. We thank you for your support!!

Girls Day Out

We mentioned we had some great news. Mom wanted to show you that she does read your advice and was willing to try something new. This weekend Mom went to a hair appointment for a fun change. It was my daughter's birthday and we were having a girls day out - hair and all. Mom had the entire Style Easy Salon talking about this blog and they were excited for her to have a professional new look.

When Mom agreed that it was time to take the leap of faith and try something new with her hair the anticipation began. Would she chicken out? She was worried that her hair would not hold any color. She was also worried about trusting a new hair stylist. What if she chopped her hair off or dyed it too dark? Mom loves being blond and wants to keep her hair long. She wanted to keep her bangs too.

I booked the appointment with my awesome hairstylist, Heather, and she canceled her weekend plans to come into the salon for Mom which I thought was too nice. She suggested some dark blonds to weave into Mom's hair and some layering in the back. Mom brought in photos of what she wanted to look like and didn't want to look like. Heather listened to what Mom wanted and knew just what to do. Mom surprised us all when she asked for red highlights. To make a long story short, it turned out amazing (as always with Heather). Mom said she hadn't liked her hair this much since 1995.

Here's the before and after pictures, what do you think?

We Want You!

Are you single? Do you have friends or family that are single? Well, we want your help! We are looking for opportunities for Mom to get out and have some fun with other single people (especially closer to her age).

If you would like to arrange something, or know of an event that you'd like to invite Bev to we want to hear from you! Mom needs some great friends especially girl friends. Mom has a few single friends that have accepted singlehood and are not interested in going out and meeting people. Because of this she usually avoids singles events because she doesn't want to go alone.

We are going to award the jackpot to whomever would like to arrange an activity or send an invite to mom. We'll be adding more to it next week! If you have a single neighbor, coworker or friend who'd like to include Mom on their next singles outing - then you can win the jackpot for arranging it.

With a little motivation we hope that our amazing blogger friends will reach out and give Mom a boost. She would love to get out and meet some other single people!!  Thanks!!

Positive Feedback

Wow! Since we began this ride a few weeks ago so many good things have happened. My mom always felt that this blog would benefit so many people in so many ways, and as moms usually are - she was right!

We have made some great new friends, helped some people in small heartfelt ways, received so much uplifting and motivational advice, and even have heard from some old friends we had lost contact with over the years. My mom has made a near 180 degree turn.

Before this experience, my mom's life and trials had hardened her and she had lost hope. She did her best to stay positive but there were many times when her phone calls would turn to tears because she felt so out of touch from the world. She works in a cubicle most of the day and is busy with her church callings and grandchildren so she really gets little opportunities to go out and meet people. She was tired of being alone on holidays and coming home to an empty house after work. She had been doing online dating, going to dances and doing her part but nothing was happening. She has been patient for 8 years and finally decided instead of waiting for someone to walk into her life she would try something new and creative. My mom is very proactive. Since we began this blog she has met so many nice people and she has been the most positive person in my life right now. All of your positive support, comments, advice and encouragement has done wonders on my mom's confidence and self-esteem and I want to thank you all!!

Here are some of our favorite comments and encouragement we have received over the last week (I tried to privatize the names that came through our email). This just proves how this blog is helping so many people - including my mom!

"Thanks Lindsey! You guys were darling. Here's to love!!!" Jennifer Stagg KSL 5

“What a surprise when we saw your KSL appearance with your mom tonight.  We thought it was very funny, clever and just plain you.  We wish you the best in your match making!”  A. Cox

“I think my Dad and your Mom might workout. I love my father to death. He has also never had a soul mate. He has 2 grandchildren, with one coming soon. He loves his children and dogs. Let me know what other information I can give you about dad. Hes 58 as of Friday. Thanks for your time.”  Joe

"Have you considered looking at www.dressingyourtruth.com for additional help? I firmly believe it would be a great source in deciding what to do with this beautiful woman's hair and how to enhance the rest of what she's been given. Kudos to you Bev for doing this. I wish you all the best!" Anonymous

“Have you heard of Dressing Your Truth? The center is in Draper. I think they could have some really helpful pointers for your mother on this journey.” The McGraws

“I saw this on KSL and I have to say, it makes me so happy! I'm divorced as well and it seems so hard to meet quality men. Good luck Bev, he's out there somewhere, looking for you. Lindsey you are a wonderful daughter. I wish you both the best!” Carol

“I think social networking is a great way to bring more possibilities to the table.” Genevieve

“I think this is SO Fantastic!! Way to go Lindsey for helping out your Gorgeous Momma. I love this. I know he's out there, Bev, hold on!! Advice from an "old maid" in Utah that just found her Prince Charming?? NEVER STOP SEARCHING!” Candace

“Hi Bev and daughter, I have your perfect match-my ex-husband! He is exactly what you are looking for...I can email you a pic let me know:)” angie

“My dad is one of the most caring guys you will ever meet, generous and loyal almost to a fault.  He would give the shirt off his back to his family if they needed it.  He loves his family and is a great grandfather.  My dad is funny and truly cares about the people around him. My dad is a great guy who deserves a great woman and if you are that person then that would be great.   If you are interested let me know and I wish you all the luck in the world finding that person who makes you whole.   Best wishes and God Bless”, C. O'Brien   (hopeful daughter!)

"Cute thing you're doing for your mom. Can't believe she never found a decent man.She is so cute." Alta

“Hi! Heard about you on KSL Nightside Show. Pretty cool.” A. Cummings

“BRAVO! The changes you've made CLEARLY shows proof to any interested men, that just because Beverly has been single for a while, DOESN'T mean she's "set in her ways" or "unwilling to compromise". And LOVE the change to the reward. She's not handing over $1,000 in cash which COULD come across as crass to a few people.” Anonymous

“I saw the story air last night on the news. I know a guy that I think would be perfect for her. He is active member of the lds church. He has a passion for cooking. He collects trains. He is an overall sweetheart. He is a thoughtful creative man, with a lot going for himself. He hasn't had the best of luck with women. I don't feel anyone should be lonely. So even if they don't make the best couple, I know would could be great friends. Let me know what you think and I will talk to him.” S. Johnson

Poll Results

It was unanimous. With 53% of the votes look #13 is the winner! Let's see if Bev will consider it.

Look #3 ( which I call the news reporter look) came in second with 16% of the votes.
