Irish Traditions Down Memory Lane

Hello everyone! Well it's that time again, it's the month of March. I love March and St. Patrick's Day it's a fun time of year. It also means it is almost Spring-time. I hope you all  have fun traditions you do to celebrate St. Patrick's day. My son went on a mission to Ireland and I actually went over there to pick him up off his mission. It was a super fun trip and quite an undertaking for a single gal like me. He took us to see a lot of different sites and places. I took my oldest daughter Crista with me. Cameron  (my son) took us to see the port  where the Titanic sailed out of. We saw the cliffs of Moore where the Movie " Princess Brides was filmed".  The cliffs are 1000 feet high! We ate their traditional Irish Fish and chips which means you eat it with malt vinegar and no Ketchup or tartar sauce. It was good but I still like it with the sauces better. We went to downtown Dublin and of course went shopping and had a good time buying a lot of good souvenirs. Dublin has very colorful buildings and is very crowded. We ate at some local cafes and had some very good sandwiches. We went to the beach with my son's Bishop and their family.  Boy, did we have a lot of fun. We took a drive through the woods to get there. We played ball once we got there and chased the seagulls. They took us on a tour and showed us some fun places.

The people we stayed with ( the McDonalds) were very hospitable. They were the family Cameron lived with while he was there on his mission. Mrs McDonald made us a very good traditional Irish dinner one Sunday afternoon. She served  us a very good pot roast and potatoes with vegetables and a very good pink- jello- parfait- type dessert. He knew a very nice gal that went to his ward. We called her the pink lady because she loved the color pink. She wore a lot of pink clothes and she had a lot of pink colors throughout her house. She was such a sweet lady. We visited another lady up in Bangor Ireland or near there. She had a lovely home done in lemon yellow and red colors. She had two very sweet daughters that we very pretty. Later on after his mission they came to visit us. We also went to some very nice stores. I bought some Waterford crystal because that is where they make it. Cameron bought some Tipperary crystal because they also have the factory there where they make it and he served part of his mission there.

The scenery was spectacular and very  beautiful. It rains a lot over there so the country side looks like patchwork green quilts and is very green. There were  a lot of cows, lambs and animals all over the hillsides. We visited some very old castles of course. They were very ancient . Cameron did a very excellent job of driving on the wrong side of the road over there!! I noticed the cars did not pull out in front of you . If they saw you coming no matter how far back you were  they would patiently wait till you drove by. There were a lot of trees and bushes by the very narrow roads we traveled. The people there drive very fast as well. I could go on and on but what a fun trip it was!!  We also ate  breakfast at his Stake or Branch Presidents home. He lived in a quaint little old cottage. He served us all kinds of fried foods, cereals, juices, milk, meats and pig's blood if you can believe  that!!!  So I hope you all have a fun St. Paddy's Day and stay tuned for some fun ideas on green dips and tips because we are doing a special class on this and I will share it with you next time......Beverly...
